Combining sound, words, and photographs, “Successors” is the abstract narrative of a post-apocalyptic, near-future Earth, and those who inherit it.
This represents my first exercise in producing a true concept album, though the specifics of the concept are left intentionally rough-edged, to allow each listener to read into it what they will.
At their core, each of the three compositions that make up “Successors” intend to create an aural manifestation of imagined memories, frayed and patinated by time. Each track is accompanied by a written document, each representing a fictitious individual’s final memories of their wasted homeland: S, who dies alone in the desert, waiting in vain for any sign of life via an antiquated two-way radio; R, who recounts his final terrestrial act from somewhere above Earth; and L, whose only memories of her homeland remain locked away within fragments of dreams.
“Successors” is composed from a minimalist array of sources — sine waves and a synthesised pipe organ form the base of each composition, which are then processed through layers of reverbs and delays, with subtle field recordings and samples looped and folded into the fray. The results form some of the most somber and restrained works I’ve ever produced — which I am, humbly, quite proud of.
I hope you enjoy it.
